These lists were compiled by the Bushland Weeds Education Group, Sydney (An initiative of the Australian Association of Bush Regenerators). They have been prepared by practising Bush Regenerators to provide information about which popular garden plants have been found to be troublesome or destructive weeds in bushland of the Sydney region. They can be considered reliable lists for horticultural educators, practising horticulturists and home gardeners, although they will no doubt be added to over the years.

We wish to acknowledge the assistance of all those who provided information and helpful criticism in the compilation of these lists.

The Sydney Region covers metropolitan Sydney and the lower Blue Mountains.

Conditions such as climate and soil type vary within the region, and this means the weeds listed might not prove equally troublesome in all areas. As a general rule, if a plant does well in a garden, it will probably also do well in nearby bush.

Bush regenerators consider some weeds have more potential to become hazards than is known at present.

****The more asterisks, the more hazard potential.****

If you would like to nominate weed species to be added to the list, or you would like to assist in the creation of local weed lists for your Region, please contact us.
