Insurance for Landcare volunteers working on private land

Some of these and other insurances may be required for not-for-profit organisations and incorporated community groups who employ paid staff and contractors.

Workers Compensation
Workers compensation covers paid workers, but not volunteers.

Professional Indemnity
Professional Indemnity covers damages caused by negligence of professional employees. This insurance can apply to co-ordinators & facilitators who are providing professional advice to volunteers and community members. Volunteers are not usually covered unless they are engaged to provide advice on behalf of an organisation (such as board members).

Motor Vehicle Insurance
To cover volunteers' own private vehicles and the organisation's vehicle(s). Volunteers will need to let their insurance company know that they are using their vehicle for their volunteer work. It is important to document your organisation's policies and procedures about the use of volunteers' private vehicles when carrying out volunteer work for the organisation.

Events Insurance
To cover loss of earnings for a fundraising event. Insurance is available against bad weather affecting an event.
