Keeping records

Insurers usually require written documentation and records. It is essential to know who has registered for volunteering each day in case there is an injury or accident that could lead to a dispute or legal action.

  • Completed registration forms and written induction interview completed forms will contain contact details and information about pre-existing medical conditions
  • Ensure volunteers sign attendance records at each work day. See Administration (Volunteer attendance records)

Tip

Persevere with the insurance issue - it may not be easy to get clear written documentation from your organisation, insurance broker or provider.

The issue of insurance for volunteers is not a straightforward one. It is a changing and dynamic area,
which needs to be addressed on a national level, and some issues are yet to be resolved or tested by the legal system.
