A
practical training program for volunteers The Swan Catchment Centre supports over 250 community conservation groups involved in the conservation and management of the Swan and Canning Rivers and their catchments. The Centre provides training, resources, advice and information for groups and volunteers. Presently 16 Swan Integrated Catchment Management groups and approximately 250 other community groups involved in natural resource management are supported by the Centre. The Skills for Nature Conservation (SFNC) Program offers free training to community members who are involved in protecting the environment. SFNC is jointly managed by The Swan Catchment Centre and The Department of Conservation and Land Management's Ecoplan. The courses are designed for community group volunteers and students, state and local government officers, private landholders and anyone interested in making a difference to our environment. The program covers a broad range of topics which include: first aid, protecting bushland, wetlands and rivers, fauna, attracting volunteers, facilitation skills, project management and group development. Participants can gain knowledge and practical skills in a broad range of topics. Courses are conducted by experienced local practitioners at no cost to participants. The Swan Catchment Centre, the Department of Conservation and Land Management's Ecoplan program and Greening Australia (WA) are pleased to offer the following Information Sheets as part of the Skills for Nature Conservation community training program.
