The Australian Government has set standard values for volunteer work in
environmental programs at
$20 per hour (@ 2004). www.nht.gov.au/envirofund
Example:
A group of 6 volunteers work for 3 hours once a month @ $20.00/hour
= 6 people x 3 hours x 12 months x $20
= $4320 equivalent value work for the year

-
This hourly rate is used to estimate the monetary value of volunteer
work as a matching in-kind contribution to monetary funding.
-
If you are justifying a new or continuing volunteer program and
writing funding applications, the above information about benefits
and monetary values, matched with some realistic statistics and
locally specific examples, can be very useful.

Volunteering
measurement toolkit
http://www.independentsector.org/media/iyv_pr.html
A toolkit prepared for the International Year of the Volunteer on
measuring the impact of voluntary action. It can be applied on a
national, regional or local level by funding bodies, policy-makers
or community organisations. The toolkit provides a general overview
for conducting a survey to measure volunteering and was developed
by the Independent Sector (a U.S. non-profit organisation) and United
Nations Volunteers (the UN organisation that promotes volunteering).
