Policies are necessary when managing people and involving volunteers. Policies do not have to be lengthy but should be reader friendly and contain enough detail to guide the operations and protect the volunteer and organisation. Developing standard operating procedures will assist with the implementation of policies for managing volunteers and the day to day management of the program. Procedures should be simple, easy to remember and adaptable in case the program grows or changes.
