Annual awards for Bushcare volunteers

North Sydney Council, NSW
www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au

At the Annual Bushcare Christmas Party, North Sydney Council holds a good-humoured awards ceremony to celebrate the year's achievements of its dedicated volunteers. The ceremony is similar to TV's Logies awards where there are 3-5 nominations and one winner is chosen from this group.

The Awards have been given fun titles and categories such as:

  • Bushcare Rhodes Scholarship Award for the most avid seeker of new skills and information
  • Young Gun Award for the energy and enthusiasm of a new recruit
  • What's That Called Again Award for the one who is least afraid to ask the names of the plants they have forgotten
  • Top of the Props to recognise the efforts of Plant Propagators
  • Hard Yakka and Quiet Achiever Awards
  • David Attenborough Award for Wildlife Watching
  • Harry Butler Encouragement Award to encourage new Wildlife Watch volunteers to keep sending in their wildlife observation sheets

The Bushcare Legend Award is like the Gold Logie of the awards, and the recipient is presented with a Golden Trowel by the Mayor and Bushland Manager. This award recognises individual volunteers who have given many years of heart and soul dedication. The recipients of this award are also entered into the Council's own 'Bushcare Hall of Fame'. Prizes for the annual Bushcare awards are donated by local businesses. The businesses are mentioned on the evening and their names are published in the following edition of the Bushcare Newsletter with a list of the award winners.
