Dismissing volunteers
Situations may arise at times where the relationship between a volunteer and organisation has deteriorated and it is best to ask the volunteer to leave. As part of their induction, volunteers can be provided with a clear statement of what behaviour will result in dismissal and the process undertaken.

Tips

  • Find out what procedures and processes are in place for warnings (verbal and written) and dismissal of paid staff.
  • Be very specific about what merits a caution, warning or dismissal - such as when a volunteer fails to work according to procedures and site plans
