Volunteer appraisals

Volunteer appraisals are conducted to:
  • Assess how well the volunteer is performing
  • Monitor whether the volunteer's motivation is being met, and
  • Assess the support given to the volunteer.

A volunteer appraisal form can be completed individually by the volunteer and supervisor, or together and discussed in a constructive way.

Some example questions for a volunteer appraisal

Volunteer attendance and tasks
Regular attendance at volunteer activities has been: poor / fair / good
Volunteer duties have been undertaken with attention to health and safety: disagree / agree
The volunteer is happy with the variety of tasks allocated: agree/ disagree

Volunteer Support
How satisfied is the volunteer with the level of training and support from the supervisor/ organisation?
Has the volunteer/ group received any support, complaints or feedback from neighbours?

Volunteer Training
The volunteer has completed the basic training
The volunteer has been given practical demonstrations in work techniques
The volunteer can demonstrate knowledge and skills in safe work practices/ work techniques/ identification of flora and fauna (whatever is applicable)

Further training needs and support for the volunteer are identified and discussed.
