Good Governance for a Growing Association

AABR is reviewing its governance, policies and procedures to ensure the Association continues to grow with confidence.

With increasing membership, the establishment of State and Territory Branches, more walks, talks and events following COVID, and our move towards ACNC charity registration, now is the right time to review how we operate as an organisation.

The review covers how we make decisions, plan and manage our budgets, delegate responsibilities, and develop both internal and public-facing policies and procedures. Our aim is to ensure everyone involved in AABR—whether on the Board, a Branch or a committee—has the confidence, guidance and support to fulfil their role, while ensuring our governance, financial management and use of grant funding remain transparent and robust.

It’s still early days. Existing policies and procedures are being updated and we’ve identified a healthy list of improvements. Ultimately, this work is about empowering the members doing the work—through our Branches, committees and working groups—to make more decisions locally while supporting AABR’s continued growth across Australia.

If you have governance experience and would like to contribute, we’d love to hear from you. Contact Peter Dixon, President, via secretary@aabr.org.au.

As AABR continues to grow, we’re not only strengthening the way we govern the Association, we’re also building the network of people and expertise that helps us deliver more for our members.

Seeking Contractors to Support AABR

AABR is seeking to develop a preferred contractors list to help them deliver products, projects and activities. Much of the work will be ad hoc and relatively small in scale, though some grant funded projects will likely entail longer term contracts. A preferred contractors list will assist the Association in engaging appropriate contractors while both ensuring rigorous procurement and minimal bureaucracy.

Expressions of interest are sought by companies and sole traders who can assist with:

  • Marketing and communications – website management and website content; writing, social media, publication development, technical writing and promotions and video production.
  • Administration – general administration, reporting
  • Accounting and Bookkeeping
  • Events Management – on line webinars, in person seminars and forums, field based events and larger scale (300-500 attendee) forums and conferences.
  • Education Experts – developing targeted communications and educational materials, guidance and campaigns.

Interested parties should send their services provided information, along with their schedule of rates as well as examples of past projects to Peter Dixon, via secretary@aabr.org.au by 30 August.
