SUMMARY:Privet management in the Coups Creek Corridor
DESCRIPTION:Wahroonga Waterways Landcare (WWL) is hosting our first walk & talk for the year at their 30ha site which forms part of the Coups Creek habitat corridor running into the Lane Cove National Park. Predominantly an E2 Environmental Conservation Zone\, the site is owned by the Seventh Day Adventist Church\, located between Pennant Hills Road and The Comenarra Parkway. \nWWL’s ecologist and site supervisor\, Jayden Streatfeild\, will be guiding the 3hr afternoon exploration starting with a short walk through an assisted regeneration site that utilised hydroseeding of Critically Endangered Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest to address under-scrubbing within the APZ. \nThe walk & talk will then proceed to investigate the various stages of Privet management in the Coups Creek riparian zone looking at the restoration process on this site from areas where only primary weeding has commenced\, through to established revegetation. Discussion topics will include the challenges in controlling weed influx presented when opening up the forest edge and erosion control measures necessary to combat stormwater runoff. \nThe site features a variety of ecosystems types including Critically Endangered Blue Gum High Forest and Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest; as well as Coastal Enriched Sandstone Forest and Coastal Sandstone Gallery Rainforest. Also present on site are Powerful Owls\, Satin Bowerbirds and Sugar Gliders\, over 20 species of native orchid\, and a weird and wonderful array of fungi that spring up every autumn. \nRSVP by 20/3/20 via Eventbrite \nWhat to bring: Afternoon tea\, water\, walking shoes\, sun-safe clothing. \nMeeting point: 150 Fox Valley Road via Australasian Conference Assoc- lower carpark near tennis court. Parking on site available \nPublic transport: Train to Hornsby + Bus 589 or Train to Turramurra station then Bus 573 to Sydney Adventist Hospital \n
