Project Description

Once so degraded and weed-infested that it seemed beyond repair, Wingham Brush is now a globally significant example of ecological restoration success. Starting work in the late 1970s, driven by innovation and an understanding of the forest’s resilience, a pioneering team challenged conventional bush regeneration methods to restore this remnant of critically endangered subtropical rainforest. Their development of the “Wingham Brush Method”, a dynamic, canopy-focused approach, transformed the reserve and inspired changes across the industry. This vibrant ecosystem is both a biodiversity refuge and community treasure. Its story demonstrates how vision, science, and persistence can reverse ecological collapse and restore almost-lost habitats.

This is the third short film in AABR’s documentary series: ‘Bush Regen Heroes’
