Scheyville National Park is a stronghold for the Critically Endangered Ecological Community, Cumberland Plain Woodland (CPW). Through a partnership with Greater Sydney Landcare and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, a Saving our Species grant is carrying out restoration of a different kind on seven sites in western Sydney.

The Cumberland Plain Restoration Program is using ecological and cultural burning, eucalypt and habitat thinning, course woody debris distribution and installation of artificial hollows to help restore the CPW to a somewhat original state.

Using a tritterer/ forest mulching machine, NPWS sites currently thick with Bursaria and African Olive have been restored to an open woodland environment, preceding burn operations hoping to encourage a forgotten seedbank.

Come along on Saturday 24th September to visit Scheyville National Park to experience the CPW, its current state and sites that have started an intense restoration procedure of thinning and/ or burning. Landcare and NPWS would like to share this method of restoration with the AABR community, to gain feedback from skilled and experienced bush regenerators about the work.

This event will be facilitated by Greater Sydney Landcare and hosted by NPWS. Bird watching optional.
