4040 Forum – Grounded in Experience. Guided by Science. Looking to the Future.
Be part of the 4040 celebrations
The 4040 Forum starts well before 27 November. In the lead-up, we’re inviting the bush regeneration community to help celebrate the people, creativity, stories and culture that have grown around 40 years of AABR and bush regeneration.
There are plenty of ways to get involved. Nominate a bush regenerator whose contribution deserves recognition through the AABR Bush Regenerators Awards. Create a design for our 40th Anniversary T-shirt, with the winning design to become part of the celebrations. And contribute to the Bush Regen Songbook (Coming Soon) – helping us collect the songs, rewrites, ditties and field-day favourites that have provided the soundtrack to bush regeneration over the years.
Whether you’ve been regenerating bush for decades or have only recently picked up your first mattock, we’d love you to be part of it. These contributions will come together at the Forum and Social & Awards Evening, making 4040 a celebration created by the bush regeneration community itself.
Nominate. Create. Contribute. And then join us in November to celebrate.
What to expect across the day
The 4040 Forum is more than a day of presentations. It’s a chance to listen, question, contribute, reconnect and look ahead – drawing on 40 years of bush regeneration experience to consider what ecological restoration needs from us over the next 40.
We’ll begin at the Roots of Regeneration: People, Place & Purpose, reflecting on the people, ideas and experiences that have shaped bush regeneration and what we’ve learnt along the way.
From there, Restoration That Works: Science, Standards & Practice brings research and practical experience together to explore how our methods have evolved, what good restoration looks like on the ground and how we can achieve and demonstrate better ecological outcomes.
After lunch, we change the pace with interactive Regeneration Futures: Scale, Technology & Investment workshops. These sessions put participants into the conversation, providing space to share ideas, test thinking and explore some of the big opportunities and challenges facing restoration over the next 40 years.
Afternoon Tea with the Pioneers offers a different kind of learning – a cuppa and an informal opportunity to talk with some of the people who were there in the earlier days of bush regeneration and AABR. Bring your questions, hear a few stories and connect experience across generations.
The afternoon continues with People Power: Participation, Skills & Careers, turning our attention to the people who make restoration happen – how we attract and support new practitioners, build skills and careers, and retain and pass on the knowledge already within the sector.
We’ll bring the threads of the day together through Forum Actions & Evaluation, capturing ideas, priorities and opportunities that can continue beyond the Forum.
And then the notebooks can close. From 5.15 pm, the Social & Awards Evening brings everyone together to reconnect, celebrate 40 years, recognise some remarkable contributions to bush regeneration – and enjoy the company of the community that has made it all possible.
Speakers, presentations, workshops and Social & Awards Evening details will be added as the program is finalised.
