Strengthening Connections Across the Region
The recent NSW/ACT Branch meeting brought together members from across the regions to connect, collaborate and plan for the future of bush regeneration.
The evening began with a light-hearted icebreaker about everyone’s ideal day working or volunteering in the bush, followed by updates on initiatives aimed at strengthening community ties and expanding AABR’s impact. Branch members were joined by Tein McDonald who shared valuable insights regarding the Accreditation program.
Promoting AABR’s visibility and relevance, especially outside of metro Sydney, was a key focus. The team brainstormed practical ways to build awareness in regional areas, including the use of QR codes on signage, updated brochures, branded stickers, and more visibility at local events and training institutions.
The upcoming Landcare Conference sparked enthusiasm, with several members planning to attend. The group also shared ideas for celebrating AABR’s 40th anniversary, with a dedicated working group forming to shape the celebrations. An expression of interest form for event facilitation is now available on the AABR website, stay tuned for further updates and how to get involved!
Regional representation and knowledge sharing was also discussed, with concerns raised about the lack of voices from remote areas like western NSW. The group proposed running regional symposiums and increasing support for local reps to help bridge the gap. Notes from the recent Weeds Conference will also help inform these efforts.
Concerns were raised about the accessibility, affordability, and suitability of insurance options, specifically public liability, professional indemnity, and workers compensation for bush regeneration contractors. Can AABR , as a peak industry body, advocate for more appropriate and fairly priced insurance solutions tailored to our sector, as well as recognition of companies that are able to offer suitable insurance for bush regenerators?
Looking ahead, members flagged an upcoming budget discussion, the next Board meeting on 7 October and AABR’s AGM which will follow in November.
As always, thanks to all who joined the meeting and continue to support the growth of the bush regeneration community across NSW and the ACT. Together, we’re building a more connected, skilled and supported network of practitioners caring for Country.
